ASME
Nuclear Code Reading Primer, is an online course designed
toprovide essential knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers
(ASME) Section III, Rules for
Construction of Nuclear Facility Components.
It
is important to understand how the Code is written to fully understand and
implement ASME nuclear rules. Throughout this training students will be
introduced to nuclear construction terminology and various Code rules and
standards used in the nuclear industry. Also included in the content of this
course is essential knowledge for understanding the philosophy behind the ASME
Nuclear Codes, opportunities to navigate the Code to quickly locate Code rules,
and necessary Code reading background information.
Learning
Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:
Describe
the philosophy underlying the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Code, Section III.
Use
the Table of Contents and Index within an ASME Code section to quickly locate
key information.
Differentiate
between Divisions (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) of ASME Section III.
Locate
both general and specific Code requirements for nuclear components.
Identify
the different Code classes for nuclear components and how they relate to a
specific Code Subsection of ASME Section III, Division 1.
Define
the meaning of key words and various Code rule conditions.
Recognize nuclear terms and their definitions unique to new construction.
Apply
the ASME Code reading principles.
