ASME Nuclear Inservice
Code Reading Primer, is an online
coursedesigned to provide
essential knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section
XI, Rules for Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant
Components.
Throughout this training students will be introduced to
nuclear inservice terminology and the various Code rules and standards that apply, as well
as the philosphy behind the ASME Nuclear Codes.
BONUS MATERIAL: Also explained are
the basic fundamentals of nuclear energy, fission, nuclear reactors, and
radiation safety concepts. Students are provided opportunities to navigate the
Code to quickly locate Code rules, and necessary Code reading background
information.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:
Explain the fundamental principles of nuclear energy and
the two common types of nuclear
reactors.
Quickly locate general and specific information in ASME
Section XI.
Recognize nuclear terms and their definitions unique to
nuclear inspections.
Identify the different Code classes for nuclear
components and how they relate to a
specific Code Subsection of ASME Section XI, Division 1.
Differentiate ASME Section XI
references from other Code Sections and Standards and Specifications.
Identify the various
types of radiation, their effects and some safety precautions.
