TheAuthorized Nuclear Inspector Course covers ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Div. 1, Rules for Construction of Nuclear Facility Components requirements for classification of components and design of nuclear power plant items as it relates to the Inspector's duties and responsibilities. This training also includes sessions on welding requirements, nondestructive examination, impact testing, material requirements, and design.

Completion of this course is one of the requirements for receiving the National Board Authorized Nuclear Inspector N Endorsement.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, students will be able to:
  • Describe the classification of nuclear items
  • Define the responsibilities of an owner and "N" Certificate holder
  • Assess design specifications, design reports, load capacity data sheets, and design report summaries
  • Identify entities involved in the requirements noted in NCA-3300
  • Assess AIA, ANIS, and ANI responsibilities and duties
  • Explain stamping and data reports
  • Interpret welding requirements
  • Evaluate Nondestructive Examination (NDE) Methods
  • Evaluate impact testing

Course Pre-Work

Included with the tuition for this course is an online courses: ASME Nuclear Code Reading Primer. Included in the confirmation email sent to students seven weeks prior to the start of class, students will be provided access to this online training. Completing this training prior to the start of class is highly recommended since it is not covered in the classroom.

Final Examination

For students electing to take the 50-question final examination, a minimum of 35 (70%) questions must be answered correctly in order to pass the examination.

Criteria for Completion

To receive a Certificate of Completion with IACET CEUs to be issued, students must:
  • complete all assigned online pre-work,
  • be in attendance* every day,
  • actively participate in classroom activities and discussions, and
  • complete homework assignments and quizzes.

*Attendance is required to be eligible to sit for the final exam. Students missing more than 10% of class will be required to make up the sessions missed.
