The Inservice Inspector Commission Course provides a detailed understanding of the duties and responsibilities of those performing inservice inspections. During this course students are also introduced to nondestructive examination fundamentals; controls and safety devices; acceptance requirements of pressure relief devices; installation and inspection plans; and stamping and data reports. 

This National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) is referenced and discussed throughout the course, as well as the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code as the original code of construction.

Students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to attend the new three-day, virtual Boiler and Pressure Vessel Fundamentals Seminar prior to attending the IS Commission Course. This information will no longer be covered as part of the IS Course agenda .

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, students will be able to:

Course Pre-Work

Included with the tuition for this course are two online courses: ASME Code Reading Primer and Basic Mathematics: Operations and Formulas. Included in the confirmation email sent to students six weeks prior to the start of class, students will be provided access to this online training. Completing this training prior to the start of class is highly recommended since it is not covered in the classroom.

The new three-day, virtual Boiler and Pressure Vessel Fundamentals Seminar is STRONGLY SUGGESTED to be completed prior to attending the IS Commission Course.

NOTE: Students enrolling in the IS class will receive a 50% discount on tuition for the BPV Fundamentals Seminar. Information on this discount will be included in the IS class enrollment email from the training department.

Final Examination

For students electing to take the 85-question final examination, a minimum of 60 (70%) questions must be answered correctly in order to pass the examination.

Criteria for Completion

To receive a Certificate of Completion with IACET CEUs to be issued, students must:
  • complete all assigned online pre-work,
  • be in attendance* every day,
  • actively participate in classroom activities and discussions, and
  • complete homework assignments and quizzes.

*Attendance is required to be eligible to sit for the final exam. Students missing more than 10% of class will be required to make up the sessions missed.
