Efficiency
Determination, is an online course designed to provide knowledge to the new construction inspector
in determining proper joint efficiency value based on factors including
category, joint type, service restrictions, and degree of radiography required
for various joint categories and joint types. Also included are the principal
responsibilities of the Authorized Inspector in understanding
ASME Code rules and in verifying compliance during construction of pressure
vessels.
Learning
Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be
able to:
Define the term joint efficiency.
Explain the terms joint category and joint type.
Describe the four joint categories.
Describe the eight joint types and explain joint type limitations.
Determine the types of welds required for Special Service condition
vessels.
Explain the meaning of required markings RT-1 through
RT-4.
Explain the terms radiographic examinations and ultrasonic
examination.
Determine when welded joints shall be examined
radiographically, and to what degree they shall be examined.
Determine the correct efficiency value (E) for a welded joint,
based on joint type and degree of radiography.
