Inspection Techniques for Firetube Boilersis an online course  designed for the inservice inspector, providing information on specific techniques used when inspecting firetube boilers.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:  

  • Describe various types of firetube and their distinguishing characteristics.
  • Recognize safety appurtenances required ASME Sections I and IV firetube boilers.
  • Identify requirements for safety appurtenances on steam (or other vapor) boilers and hot water (or other fluid) boilers.
  • List items to consider during an inservice inspection of a firetube boiler.

Each student is required to have the following materials (currently mandated edition):

  • ASME Section I, Power Boilers
  • ASME Section IV, Heating Boilers
  • ASME Section VI, Recommended Rules for the Care and Operation of Heating Boilers
  • ASME Section VII, Recommended Guidelines for the Care of Power Boilers
  • NBIC Part 1, Installation
  • NBIC Part 2, Inspection

Criteria for Successful Completion
As a minimum, for a National Board Certificate of Completion to be issued, students must:
