Material Control/Monitoring, is an online course designed to provide knowledge to the new construction inspector in the area of material control, as well as information on where the Code allows use of ASTM and other materials. Also included are the duties of the Authorized Inspector in monitoring quality control.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:  

  • Explain the duty of the AI to monitor the quality control system of the certificate holder.
  • Locate where ASME allows the use of ASTM materials for Code construction.
  • Identity the Code requirement for plate material test reports.
  • State the manufacturer’s responsibility to examine all materials before fabrication of a vessel of part.
  • Locate Part UCS steel plate requirements.
  • Locate material requirements as they relate to the AI’s responsibilities.
  • Explain the purpose of the AI’s diary.
  • Verify the proper thread engagement for tapped holes.
  • Identify and apply the Code requirements for dissimilar thicknesses of base metals.

Reference Materials
Each student is required to have the following materials (currently mandated edition):

  • ASME Section VIII, Div. 1,  Power Boilers
  • NB-263, RCI-1, Rules for Commissioned Inspectors

Criteria for Successful Completion
As a minimum, for a National Board Certificate of Completion to be issued, students must:

  • actively participate in all online course interactions
  • respond to all knowledge check questions
