Installation of Pressure Reducing Stations, is part of a series of  online courses designed with installers of pressure equipment in mind. The course first discusses regulations, laws, and standards, then moves into specific requirements for pressure reducing stations.

At the beginning of the course students asked to print a "Checklist of Questions" related to the installation of pressure equipment which may then be used as a guide when in the field.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:  

  • Explain why boiler regulation was needed, and how it became standardized.
  • Describe how nationally recognized codes and standards are used to create local jurisdictional laws and regulations.
  • Identify codes that are particularly relevant to installers of pressure-retaining items.
  • Identify organizations that have been key to the development of codes and standards.
  • Describe the functionality and basic design of a pressure reducing station.
  • Identify the ASME (B31.1) and NBIC Part 1 rules governing the design and installation of pressure reducing stations and associated pressure relief piping.
  • Explain when to use and how to determine the size of the required pressure relief devices (PRDs).
  • Recall the contents of B31.1 Nonmandatory Appendix II, Rules for the Design of Safety Valve Installations .
