General Information
ASME Section VIII, Division 2 Materials and
Design is designed to provide learners with an in-depth review of
materials, Design by Rule, and Design by Analysis. The training includes
special requirements for material selection, properties, and certifications, as
well as the special design requirements for Division 2 vessels. This course is
the second in a sequence of two Section VIII, Division 2 courses, the first
being the Overview of ASME Section VIII, Division 2
. It is recommended learners take the
overview course prior to enrolling in this follow-up course. Learning
Outcomes After completing this course, students will be able to:
Explain the special rules associated with materials used
in Division 2 construction (including material test
requirements, heat treatment
requirements, and material toughness requirements). State the conditions when Part 4, Part 5, or components
of each must be used for design. Explain thickness requirements, design rules for
welded joints, and rules
for shells under internal pressure. Explain methods of stress analysis (elastic, limit-load,
elastic-plastic), screening criteria for fatigue
analysis, and fatigue assessment techniques.
Describe the rules
for fabrication of Division 2 vessels. List
the major duties of the Authorized Inspector for Division 2 vessels. Describe
the rules for testing of Division 2 vessels. Describe
the rules for marking and stamping of Division 2 vessels.
