Pressure Piping Material continues
from the Pressure Piping Design Introduction Online
Course and provides an understanding of the relationship among ASME
Section I, Section II, and B31.1 relating to the basic construction of Power and
Process Piping Systems. The material reviews the scope elements found in Section
I and B31.1 as well as the Code Jurisdictional limits for piping. The training
concludes with discussion on the pressure piping elements related to material.
This
course describes and explains the selection of Code material (listed and
unlisted), material standards and specifications, material certification,
identification, limitations, and dimensional requirements, as well as brazing
and welding materials used with pressure piping. Real-life situations are used
to reinforce Code concepts.
Learning Outcomes
After
completing this course, students will be able to accomplish the following in
accordance with the B31.1 pressure piping requirements :
Describe
the selection of listed and unlisted materials according to Chapter III.
Explain
the uses of permitted Specifications, Codes, and Standards in Chapter
IV.
State
the material identification, limitations, and dimensional requirements listed
in this course.
List
the material specific requirements for brazing, welding, and certification as
prescribed in Chapter V.
Evaluate
real-life situations related to B31.1 Scope and Material
requirements.
Reference Materials
Although not
required, each student may find it helpful to have the following materials
(currently mandated edition):
ASME
Section I, Rules for
Construction of Power Boilers
ASME
Code for Pressure Piping, B31.1, Power Piping
Note: ASME Code and Standards may be
ordered through the ASME
website.
Criteria for Successful
Completion
As a minimum, for a National Board
Certificate of Completion to be issued, students must:
