General Information
Heat Treatment, is an online course designed to provide students with an understanding
of preheat, local postweld heat treatment (PWHT), and alternative welding
methods that can be used in lieu of PWHT. The information provides is sources
from Part 3 of the National Board Inspection Code, the
ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Code, the Welding Research Center, and practical
experience.Learning
Outcomes After completing this course,
students will be able to: Define preheat and
interpass temperatures. Definte key
concepts related to preheating.
Explain why local
PWHT is needed. Define key terms and concepts
related to local PWHT. Identify portions of the
NBIC that pertain to local PWHT. Explain alternative welding methods in lieu of
PWHT. Identify alternative welding methods presented in the NBIC and
explain their requirements.
