Certified Individual: Pressure Relief Devices, is an online course  designed for ASME certificate holders to prepare their employees for designation as Certified Individuals. The focus is on the Certified Individual's responsibilities, duties, and ASME Code requirements applicable to pressure relief devices, specifically Sections I, IV, and VIII Division 1.

Although this course is designed for the Certified Individual, anyone involved with pressure relief device inspection may benefit from this training.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:  

  • List the necessary steps to obtain a Certified Individual (CI) certificate.
  • Identify the main duties of a Certified Individual.
  • Locate key information in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code that relates to Pressure Relief Devices.
  • Describe the purpose of the ASME form(s) related to pressure relief devices and determine when it should be used.

Reference Materials
Although not required, each student may find it helpful to have the following materials (currently mandated edition):

  • ASME Section I, Rules for the Construction of Power Boilers
  • ASME Section IV, Rules for the Construction of Heating Boilers
  • ASME Section VIII, Div. 1, Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels
