Special ASME Section X High Pressure Composite and Composite Reinforced Vessels

Release Date: September 16, 2019
Delivery: Online
Code Version:  2019
Presentation Style: Documentary
Continuing Education Qualification:  AI Commission, B Endorsement, PEI ASME Construction
Approximate Time: 2.9 hours

Synopsis: This course builds on the knowledge gained in the National Board online course, ASME Section X: An Overview of Class I and Class II Vessels, and introduces two new subjects: Class III fiber-reinforced (FRP) vessles with liners for high-presure fluids in stationary services, and composite reinforced pressure vessels (CRPVs) which have metallic shells with laminate reinforcement or overwrap for high pressure service.

Students will also learn about the roles of the Fabricator and the Manufacturer and how to verfiy compliance during construction, qualification, and testing of these Section X, Appendix 8 and Appendix 10 items.

It is highliy recommended students complete the "ASME Section X: An Overview of Class I and Class II Vessels" online course prior to enrolling in this course.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • For Appendix 8 Vessels
    • Explain the duties of an Authorized Inspector for Section X Class III vessel fabrication.
    • Explain what Section X Class III fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) pressure vessles are.
    • Describe the acceptable methods used to manufacture these Class III FRP vessels.
    • Describe the design qualification methods for Class III vessels.
    • Compare the responsibilities and roles of a Fabricator and a Material Manufacturer of Class III FRP vessels.
  • For Appendix 10 Vessels
    • Explain the duties of an Authorized Inspector for Section X CRPVs fabrication.
    • Explain what Composite Reinforced Pressure Vessels (CRPVs) are.
    • Describe the acceptable methods used ot manufacture these CRPVs.
    • Describe the design qualification methods for CRPVs.
    • Compare the responsibilities and roles of a Material Supplier and a Manufacturer of CRPVs.

Reference Materials
