Inservice Inspection Documentation, is an online course designed to provide the Inservice Inspector and Supervisor with an overview of National Board Inspection Code Inspection Forms (I-1, NB-5, NB-6, and NB-7) and Repair /Alteration Forms (R-1, R-2, R-3, and R-4). It outlines an Inspector's and Supervisor/Technical Manager's duties and responsibilities and relates them to various system types and their subsequent areas of inspection. The course walks the learner through a series of documentation decisions that need to be made when inspecting a boiler or pressure vessel. Included are details covering what information is required to be entered on each inspection form, line by line, and documentation process itself.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:  

  • Identify the correct NBIC Inspection Form (I-1, NB-5, NB-6, or NB7) an Inservice Inspector shall use and list the rules for completing the Form.
  • Recall the various system types and their associated areas of inspection.
  • Recognize the sequence of document review and verification for inservice inspections to include installation, first internal inspection, stamping and nameplates, repair/alteration, and subsequent inspections.
  • Verify the correct entries and signatures required for documentation of repairs or alterations.
  • Validate correct and accurate information required for the various lines of the NBIC Forms using actual equipment or situations.

Each student is required to have the following materials (currently mandated edition):

  • National Board Inspection Code, Part 1, Installation
  • National Board Inspection Code, Part 2, Inspection
  • National Board Inspection Code, Part 3, Repairs and Alterations
  • NB-263, RCI-1,  Rules for Commissioned Inspectors

Criteria for Successful Completion
As a minimum, for a National Board Certificate of Completion to be issued, students must:

  • actively participate in all online course interactions
  • respond to all knowledge check questions
