Quality Systems for Repair Inspectors, is an online course designed to provide an understanding of quality systems and quality control manuals, and how to apply this knowledge during monitoring and inspections to ensure R Certificate Holders employ a quality system acceptable to the Repair Inspector. Students will also learn how quality system requirements relate to joint reviews.

Students are introduced to National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) requirements for elements of a quality system, and how these requirements are converted into a quality control manual tailored to a specific repair organization's scope of work.

Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:  

  • Explain the elements of a quality system, as required by the NBIC.
  • Provide examples of how to convert NBIC quality system requirements into a quality control manual specific to a repair organization.
  • Compare the Repair Inspector's duties in NB-263, RCI-1 Rules for Commissioned Inspectors with the requirements outlined in NBIC Part 3, 1.5.1.
  • Define the term controls and how this applies to quality systems.
  • Use the NBIC to determine if a repair organization's quality control manual meets requirements.

  • National Board Inspection Code, Part 3, Repairs and Alterations
  • National Board Standard NB-263, RCI-1,  Rules for Commissioned Inspectors

Criteria for Successful Completion
As a minimum, for a National Board Certificate of Completion to be issued, students must:
